Been a little MIA this week because I had a sick little mama here at home. Niamh caught a nasty summer bug, and she has been in bed most of the week. She started feeling better yesterday, so hopefully we are just about past it.
Since I have not posted for a few days, I think this will be a great way to get back into the swing of things! This is a new e-book by the lovely Zoe McGrath. The book focuses on coloring long hair and giving it depth, bringing out it's shape and curves, and basically how to graduate into 'awesome-hair-colorer' status:).
I chose to try her techniques with a red-head. This e-book is very easy to follow, and Zoe explains everything really well. This is my first and only try so far, and looking back, I think I should have used a dark brown for the really dark color. My 'dark' red is just not giving me the shadows I want...But, for a first try, I am happy:). I was able to get a 'strand' look...which is my favorite part of Zoe's coloring. I like the hair to look like separate pieces.
I am one stop in a blog hop full of pretty hair coloring!:)...Here is the complete list of ladies. Be sure to check out their beautiful coloring skills, too:).
Me!
You can purchase the e-book here. Also, check out Zoe's other coloring manuals-- each one is a wealth of coloring knowledge and experience ...and will prove to be a useful tool time and time again! Also, the e-book comes with this *exclusive* image. It will not be available later in my shop.
And TWO of my readers will receive the 'Coloring Long Hair' e-book for free! Woop!Woop! Here is how to enter the giveaway:

love this new image and you colored her beautifully!!!
well I don't work with markers because of my astma. to badly I get some breathing problems from the alcohol in it, but with my derwent coloring pensils I love to use those crazy bright colours like pink, blue or so for the hair but I usually choose the save brown colours because it's easy and and not much can go wrong with those.
I know this tutorial is for working with markers but I believe that I still can learn a lot from it so maybe after this I'm less afraid of using the crazy bold haircolors and coloring hair a lot better!!!
thank you so much for this chance.

ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning image, gorgeous hair. My fav at the moment is blonde tones I use Copics, E50,E53,E31 & E43. I also love greys. Wonderful giveaway Krista thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeletexx Vee
I'm afraid that I'm really dull and use a range of browns usually, E59/57/35/33/31/51, but that is only because they are the only ones that I can manage to make look any good. I would actually love to learn how to do a good blond or proper highlights. I think your images are fab for learning and practising on because the hair strands that you draw make it look so much better and I struggle on images that have less definition to their hair.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Annette
xx
My fave combo is, black and grey or blank and blue :)
ReplyDeletewowsers, that hair is fiery and gorgeous! I love it Krista! I think my favorite hair is a green/blue combo, but I hardly ever use it. Anyways it was nice swinging by and visiting you but I have to get back to choirs and card making before kiddos make it home.
BTW THANK YOU! For the sweet messages regards to my baby :)

Toni xx

I love the caramel browns--E33,35.
ReplyDeleteoh wow, that looks amazing! I tend to stick to traditional brunette shades with the occasional blonde thrown in.. however I love doing some scary purple halloween hair! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is one gorgeous image Krista and coloured to perfection. I already have all Zoe's books so please leave me out of the draw.
ReplyDeleteHugs maz

Gorgeous colors for the hair! You did a fab job on the card! I usually use browns. Not that great on hair, but getting better!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous red hair!! I love to do brunette's but tend to color a lot of blonds too, especially since my boy is blond. I tend to color little guys to look like him! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteGoodness I hope your daughter feels better soon....My favorite Hair color is Reds, I have a really hard time blending these together but one day I will get it right! Thanks for the Chance to win!!

ReplyDeleteI love your hair coloring technique and I agree with you I would have used one more color in a dark contrast. If you have ever seen any of my colored images - yours (Saturated Canary) and others that feature BIG Hair and BIG Eyes, you already know that anything goes with me for colors and rarely do I like to color the hair the "usual" blondes or browns" - more like TEAL Blues and BRIGHT Pinks!!
Hugs,
Gorgeous, great first try :)
ReplyDeleteKrista, what an awesome image for Zoe's ebook. Your digi's always have the most amazing hair and this one is stunning. I have no confidence at all colouring hair, so this will be a fabulous tut' to have. Will definitely get it and so look forward to having a go with your reds! Stunning!! I coloured up your beautiful 'Springtime' image recently with pale 'straw blonde' shades and was really happy with how that came out. I've not made it into a card yet, but will put the image up in honour of this release.
ReplyDeleteHugs to Niamh. Hope she's well on the mend now. Thinking of you. Hugs, Wends x
I love reds and yellowish blonde.
ReplyDeleteOH WOW - LOVE the red hair - and of course you have nailed this technique with your amazing artistic flair. Thank you sooooo much for letting us play with your beautiful image - I just LOVE everything you do!

So pretty. I'm still learning, but my fav hair combo right now is E19, E15, E13, &E11.
ReplyDeleteHey Krista, thanks for the opportunity to with this book. I have been looking for a tutorial for colouring hair this way. I love it! My favorite hair colour combo is anything blonde. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteCarolyn Mac
What stunning red hair-it inspires me to do something less "traditional" For some reason I always go to versions of brown eg dark blonde to brunette. A whole ebook on coloring hair would be wonderful to get me out of my rut.
ReplyDeleteI love a blondy-brown colour combo,... boring, non-adventurous... but I am just starting to feel my way around colouring with my markers....
ReplyDeleteHi Krista, sorry to hear that your little Niamh has been ill,but glad to hear she is feeling better.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite hair colour combo is shades of brown and I usually work with Copics. I would love to be able to colour hair this way - mine is definitely lacking, lol.
Oh yeah I'm a follower, visit nearly daily.
Looks like a great tutorial- love Your coloring! Thanks for the chance to win!!'

Oh my goodness you draw these amazing images and you also color. Let alone share them on a blog. Oh my goodness. Too awesome. Thank you so much for sharing your talents. Yep, I'm definitely a follower now. By the way your family is gorgeous! Wow, completely have no idea how you do it all. But, thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteGetting strands of hair to show is a real challenge. The hair on all of your images gives me lots of practice lol. My favorite hair color combo is Copic E 50's. Kind of white to light brown - dark blonde. You did a fantastic job. I think I will have to try your techniques.
ReplyDeleteMy fav is strawberry blonde. Thanks for the chance to win, love Zoe's tuts.
ReplyDeleteYour project is gorgeous. I love her red hair. I always color some version of brown hair. I love red hair, but have been to scared to try it. lol I don't even know where to begin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance at this awesome e-book.
Wow, your coloring skills are amazing love it my fav hair color is shades of brown with yellows. Thanks for a chance to win
ReplyDeleteWOWZERS! Coloring hair anything but normal colors scares me to death. LOL Your reds look amazing and I love her cat green eyes. :-) Beautiful job Krista! Get well wishes to your sick munchkins. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHi Krista,
ReplyDeleteHope little Philly is feeling better. My favorite hair color has to be the darker browns (E family) since that is my hair color (okay...was..lol). I follow you already.
Your hair coloring was already awesome, Krista, and this looks beautiful too. My favorite hair to color has to be the reds (since I'm a natural ginger myself!) but I also like mixing colors like black with a blue streak or blonde with a pink or turquoise streak. And any unusual color like pink, green or blue makes me happy too! Next time you go red, try using R59 for your dark parts... it's very rich and adds a lot of depth to the red tones, especially if you're going for a more auburn color. You just have to be careful not to overdo it. Isn't experimenting fun? :) I hope both of the kiddos are feeling better. Tell 'em hi!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Anne
I been coloring a lot of your images with R59. I am new to this so I'm not sure how to mix it yet., but I try add colors here and there. I am already a follower too.
ReplyDeleteJennifer M
Your hair colouring is gorgeous and so is your sweet girl ♥♥

Hello Krista! Great to hear your little girlie started to feel better, hope she's on the mend now!!!
ReplyDeleteYour card is super gorgeous! Wowzers, the image is so cute and you colored her so beautifully! What an awesome hair colour combo! I have never tried reds on coloring hair but will definitely have to try, it looks fantasic! My fav hair combo is E59, 49, 29, 27, 51, 50.
I would love to win this awesome tutorial, thank you for a chance!
Have a great weekend!
Hugs, Silvie xx
Gorgeous hair! I'm terribly unadventurous when it comes to colouring. I usually use browns in the E family. I'm too scared to go outside the colour families. cheers Linda
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is a dark blonde. Have a number of combos that I like for the dark blonde shades. Not very exciting. I would like to try some funky blue hair or pink. Just never have the right character or occasion for those. I'll just have "color" for the heck of it!
ReplyDeleteHey Krista,
ReplyDeleteAwesome job with the red hair colouring. I must say that Red is not one of my favourite colour combos.. simply cause it bleeds.. my favourite combo is E33,35,37..
I am totally with Niamh on feeling sick. I've been sick for nearly 3 weeks and you basically feel like crap. I hope she feels better soon..
And once again well done on the colouring.

I love this gorgeous image, I love the gorgeous hair and am so happy to learn about these e-books by Zoe! I like to experiment with lots of different hair shades, but it seems I always go back to some sort of golden brown. HA! That's even my own fallback shade when coloring my own hair!! ;-)
