First Day.

No tears.

Well, a few last night at bedtime.  Philly told me he was worried he was gonna miss me at school.  Niamh wanted in on the snuggles, so she came over...with a whiney voice...and said, "I might miss you, mom."  Then she started giggling.

We ate special donuts this morning (thank you, Phil, for the 6am donut run:)...

We spent a little too much time looking for underwear.  But, thank goodness, both kids went with some on:).  That is always a good way to gage our mornings--Do the kids have underwear on?  :)

Niamh had to have these two pieces of hair hang out of her bow.  I can't say I'm a fan of these hairs in her face, but she did look super pretty.  And sometimes you just need to let them have their own say in their 'style'.

We peeked in the kids rooms before we left.  Niamh was happy, and seated next to one of her besties.  Philly was air-fiving the teacher-- smiling and ready for the school year.

What a difference a year makes!  Last September, I spent the whole day crying, broken-hearted for my little guy.  This year, I'm excited for them both!

Hope all the mamas out there had a good first day (or will, depending on when you start!) of school with the kiddos!!  And, for all the mommies who are bringing their baby to school for the first time ever this fall-- feeling sad, teary-eyed, and pretty much just a red, puffy-faced mess-- I promise.promise.promise.  It does get easier...or, maybe just happier:).  (I still get the urge to steal them away and continue on with summer:).

But, then the whole hour of looking for clean underwear would have been in vain:).  And you can't throw away all that effort.

Happy School Year, friends!!
xx

  3. Sweet... yes I remember the teary first days with both my son and daughter as well. It DOES get better. But even now... he's a sophomore and she's in her last year of elementary before middle school... I DO go steal them on occasion and "pretend" they have a doctor appointment (much to their surprise!) and we go have a "day".. just to be together alone. Hee Because ultimately... you never have enough time having fun when they are younger... before college... before wife/husband... before grandkids. I enjoy every single little moment and cherish their young hearts forever! I'm happy you do as well. (HUGS)

Keagan, my boy, went into yr 9 here, (nearly 14!) so yeah it gets easier but I still feel it! Such cute pics, I must try, if he'll let me to take more pics of my boy in uniform, he looks so smart, but teens & mums & cameras.......:0) Take care lovely Zo xx

  9. I love it! Do the kids have on underwear? It's going to be a good day. I'm one of those first time school mamas as my oldest daughter started K this year. I have been a total emotional mess for a month. I'm shocked really by what a big change it all is for me, a stay at home mom. Thanks for your words of encouragement and humour. You are such a blessing!

  10. I hear ya Krista! This morning I was taking my yearly pictures in the "spot" where we have taken school pictures in since we moved here in 2003, I had to hold back the tears. Instead of worrying about leaving them at school for the first time, it is the first day of their Senior and Freshman years! Wow....where did the time go? I remember too clearly that first day how hard it was for both the kids and I when they went off to school. Today, it really did hit me hard after they left for school that this was the last year to take my yearly photos of both my kids in the "spot" on the first day of school.

  13. Precious moments as they grow up so fast. Been reading your posts throughout the summer so I think you've had great holidays. School started back in Scotland a few weeks ago, but my two are higher up the school than yours - well my eldest starts Uni in 2 weeks, gulp, where did all those years go? Hope you caught up with the washing today so there's not a repeat of the undies hunt - mind you it would have been fun and sent them to school giggling! Jx

  18. Watch out because before you know it they are all grown up and don't want your help! My daughter will be 14 next thursday (13) she has started grade 9. I want to walk her to her classes but I guess that will cramp her style!! LOL I miss the days when she wanted me to meet her teacher!! :) Now we hunt for the perfect makeup in the am! :)

I love your daughters style! She looks pretty good with her hair in her face! My daughter chose to get bangs this year and wow they covered one of her eyes! Not a fan at all but that only lasted for one day because now she just pulls them back!

Happy back to school to your family! :) Cherish every moment! :)

  22. Your kids are adorable Krista! I love Niamh's backpack, it's deadly :D I don't have any of my own yet, but thinking back to my own first days at school...I certainly didn't make it easy on my mum! Crying and pleading to be taken home...the poor woman was probably scarred for life on account of having to leave me at the classroom!

  26. Philly looks good in his new haircut. The first pic is really cute--if you look into their eyes deeply, you can almost envision them as they will look some day as young teens... savour the moments, time stops for no one... very cute pics, now you go on and do a load of underware in the laundry so tomorrow morning will be a breeze--(and not breezy..!)

  28. I'm glad it went well. I'm not liking the kindergarten/bus thing. So different than pre-school. We can't go in the school & there's a line of cars & we have to stay in the car to drop them off. She takes the bus home & has been getting home at almost 4pm. ugh.

  30. My little boy started kindergarten a couple of days ago and although he was very excited and happy there were also some tears the night before he went for the first time. And by saying «I already miss you, mom», I couldn't hold them back as well. But now he is doing fine and I'm so proud of him. I love him more than words can say!
So happy to hear your sweeties (and you too) had a good start at school.
    Hugs, Anja

  32. Oh how cute they both look my friend!! I must admit this lil story brought tears to my eyes, as i have a long time passed this part of my children's lives, with the eldest at 26 and the youngest at 19, and i can remember all 3 of their first days, as if it were yesterday, and my step son's first day at secondary as i brought him up from aged 11......i cried, my kiddos giggled, they weren't bothered, i was distraught, LOL.......'a blubbering mess', would describe me well......enjoy these times sweet, they pass, way hey hey too fast, huggles darlin, Vick xxx

  36. So glad you found the underwear. LOL My mother always told me before leaving the house...."make sure you have clean underwear on" (I'm assuming theirs was....lol)
It does get easier & easier to let them go their own way & be individuals. Your kids are darling! And Niamh's hair looks cute with the strands hanging down her sweet face.
    Happy Huggies ~
